"Hi. My name is Tres Tew. I'm an instructor at Yeshua's Ryu Martial Arts and on behalf of Expert Village, I'm going to be teaching you about improvised weapons. Now, you can use pens and pencils in a self defense situation against a knife. You can also use scissors and letter openers and things like that. As you can see, this is a very simple pen. Now, when your attacker comes, you want to catch the attack whether it's a thrust or whatever type of attack it is. The key to fighting with a pen is multiple punctures. Because it's a small surface and the diameter is not very big, you're not making enough punctures so it's not doing enough damage to completely make him drop this arm. So, what we want to do is we want to do multiple punctures to keep him from attacking us again and deaden that arm. So, one more way we can come in if he's coming in with a thrust, we are pushing it down. We'll switch so you guys can see. Push down and puncture straight into the forearm, into the bicep, even into the neck. Then we can come back. Pretty much we are using the pen as a puncturing tool to deaden the knife hand so that we can either pull it out of their grip or just completely make them drop it. That's how to use a pen as an improvised weapon. "
