" Ron Colby here with Gary Yamamoto Custom Baits. What we’re going to show you today is how to walk the dog. This is a very popular technique. It takes just a little bit of skill and a little bit of patience to learn this technique. One of the biggest things to help you learn this technique is to proper line selection. What you don’t want to use is flora carbon or braided line. You want a heavy mono, a very stiff line that will help push the bait along. What’s going to happen is as the bait walks like this, this the action that’s on the water, you don’t want the bait coming over and running over the top of the line and catching your line and stuff on your hooks. What you want to choose is a very heavy__ which will actually help float the bait on the water and keep the bait pushing and help push it’s nose from side to side as it goes back. Generally what I select…This is a Sammie 100, and what I generally use on this is like 16 pound test mono line. Very heavy and very thick so it’ll help float the bait. Let’s see how it works. All we’re doing is wrist action. We don’t want to be doing no pulling, none of this. For this size of bait it’s just really nice smooth action. As you’re doing that, this bait just walks right across the surface, does that little zigzag back and forth, back and forth. Once in a while you might want to stop it and let it set. You can just pick it back up 2 or 3 twitches and it gets going again. "
