"Hi this is Manny Castro, Exercise Physiologist. This next exercise for strengthening for seniors, we’re going to try to strengthen the calf muscles as well as the ankles and also this exercise is a great balancing exercise. What we want to do is once again use our household chair, stand about a foot back from the chair, feet now shoulder width, hold on nice and tight to the chair here, and remember your posture should be good on all these exercises. And what you want to do is raise up on your toes again for a count of 3 and you want to get a nice tight feeling in the calf muscles in the back of the lower leg. And then hold it for 1 second and let it back down for a count of 3. You want to repeat this about 10 to 15 times. As you grow stronger doing this exercise, you’ll probably want to do it on one leg only and really the way that would work is, you would lift one foot up off the floor and then raise up on that one foot, just the same way. Again you want to use good posture as you come up, get that nice tight feeling when you come up on your toe. "
