"Hi, I'm John Miller here with Expert Village to teach you how to punt a football. How to drop the football, the release, the drop is one of the most important parts of a punt. If you can do a consistant drop, then your leg just has to meet the ball; that's the easy part. Doing the actual drop is where you have the most problems, and if you practice it enough it's all about, uhm, repititions, and being consistant with it for you to be a great punter. And uhm, the biggest, the most important thing about the release is you need to push the ball out then you want it to land flat onto your foot and you want the sweet spot of the ball meeting the sweet spot of your foot, where you can really just make good contact and a nice big punt. The problem physically with punting is your leg is longer than your arm so you got the ball in the drop table, you're doing your steps through there, and as, and as you do your plant step, you take that second step, your left arm is coming off at the same time. So you doing your last step, that leg comes forward, arm comes off, and you've got the ball just in one hand, with your good grip as we went over earlier, and it's on the drop table, a nice high height, now what I need to do is make it meet my foot, but my arm is shorter than my leg, now the balls about a foot away, twelve inches from my foot. What you need to do is you need to push the ball out. You've got a little bend in your elbow as the ball is on the drop table. You just straighten that out and push it flat; you push it out on that drop table, gravity's going to pull it down. And as long as you push it out far enough and your body's moving forward too, so you can compensate for that, then you can meet it onto the foot over there, so just a little push out."
