" Let’s talk about the different types of boards that you can ride. There’s two types: fiber glass and wood. Fiberglass is good for riding in waves because of the buoyancy; it can keep you up while you’re riding. The thing about wood boards is if you try and take them in the waves, you’ll probably sink. When you get a fiberglass board, if you’re planning on doing wave riding, check the weight limit because that can be a big deal. If you get a board that rated for too small of a person, you’re going to end up sinking, but if all you want to do is hit up some flat ground and just get your ride on, I’d use a wood board. You can get these wood boards at a lot of sporting good stores like Big 5, that kind of place. Even Wal-Mart carried them last summer. Let’s say you want to ride, but you can’t even afford a board. You can actually make your own board, and maybe later on we’ll go through all the steps of making your own board. Don’t be discouraged if you can’t afford if, because I really think it’s the kind of sport that really anybody can do and you shouldn’t have an excuse that you can’t go out and try it. "
