"Now in previous segments you've heard me talk about hitting inside the inside pitch, hitting the outside pitch, hitting the ball up, hitting the ball down. Through all of those demonstrations I talked about staying on top of the ball. Well, what is staying on top of the ball and why are we talking about it? Staying on top of the ball is essentially, all you're doing is keeping your barrel above the bat, or your barrel above the ball. Excuse me on that one. Now why do you want to do this? Because, if you start to get below the ball you're going to get those weak pop ups. Now if I hit the ball, if I make contact with the ball here it's a solid line drive, you know a hard ground ball. Or if I hit the ball here it's a pop up. Now as you can see I did not move my finger very much. Just you know, maybe a quarter of an inch if that. That is why baseball is such a game of inches. It's that little bit that I moved my finger from here to here that makes the difference between a line drive and a pop up. Now this is why you want to stay on top of the ball. Now how do we do this? Go through all of our parts of the swing. Boom, here comes the pitch, like I said before we're driving our hands down, boom, and you see the barrel is still up so I can stay on top of the ball. I don't want to do this. This is your weak pop up, you know pop up to the catcher things like that. So do not do that. What you want to do is, boom right here, to contact, I'm on top of the ball. And that's how you hit those hard line drives, those hard ground balls and find holes."
