" Hi, this is Bruce Lessels from Zoar Outdoor on behalf of expertvillage.com, talking about low impact camping methods. One of the main impacts that people have on the environment is the things they bring with them and leaving them in the woods, trash, food trash, food scraps, things like that. In the case of food scraps if you leave your food on the ground of course some animal is going to come and eat it and to some people that sounds like low impact camping because the animal is going to eat it and it’ll be gone. The problem you’ve created there is that you’ve attracted animals to that site, so when the next person comes they’re going to have pest animals there and eventually the animals can become a problem. It also can be bad for the animals, the diet that you are feeding the animals is not the diet that they would naturally get and you can introduce health problems in that animal’s population. So that’s one of the main reasons to pack it and pack out. The other reason of course is just things like this, someone left a can here, how many years ago? I’m sure that’s no longer made and this is maybe 20, 30 year old car that’s still sitting here and degrading. It’s going to take a long time for that can to turn into dirt and so that should of impact years ago, we’re going to pack it out this time. So pack in and pack out not only your own stuff but pack out other stuff that’s been leftover if you find it and try to leave the area in at least as good condition as you found it and if not better."
