"ALVIN DEDEAUX: One of the advantages of fly fishing is that you can deliver a weightless lure or bait or fly. Where if I had to cast something that was a quarter of an inch long that didn't have any weight to it, there's no other way I could deliver it with a conventional rod. There's just no weight to cast there. So with a fly rod, I can cast a weightless lure, something that floats on top of the water or something that's really small, something that's very life-like. There's no weight to it. So if it's a sinking lure and it's in the water and the fish grabs it, it doesn't feel foreign like something that's actually got some weight built into it. So that's one of the big advantages of fly fishing is that you can deliver weightless lures, very small lures, and they are much more life-like because of that."
