"Hi, I'm Jill Bergman and I'm going to talk to you a little bit about the kinds of shelter that you should have for Alpacas. I have a big barn but that isn't really necessary. But Alpacas do need shelter and they need shelter especially from wind. So a 3 sided shelter, a loafing shed, something of that nature, would actually work quite well for Alpacas. An important thing though is how you face your shelters. Shelter should always be south facing so that it will get sunshine in cold weather so that that the Alpaca's are- excuse us here- so the Alpacas have the warmth and particularly they have the sunshine. So it's important that you build your shelters facing south. Now in the summer time I have to say, I move my Alpacas over to the north to keep them on the cooler side of the barn. Along with shelter, it's really important that they have shade or some place that they can get in out of the sun or out of the rain or out of the wind or out of the snow, wherever it is. But shade, in the summer is particularly important because they do not do well in real, real heat. So, if you have trees or if you have some means of shading these little critters, it's great."
