"This chicken is called a Barred Rock developed originally in New England probably Rhode Island or Connecticut in the 1800's. One of the first American breeds of bird. There are lots of different kinds of Rocks. This bird is the most popular. It was in the middle of the 1900's the most popular farm bird and you can see why. She is a good sturdy bird, she's got a good solid body if you want to have chicken for your dinner and also an excellent egg layer, so she is a dual purpose bird. You can see how she gets her name. She's got these lovely barrs. A calm chicken, very good at protective herself and very good at consistent egg laying and as you can see, she is also quite lively. They will also produce within a few months. A good bird for the table. "
