"Tiger salamanders are found throughout North America. There's a lot of different species and subspecies. In the east there's the eastern tiger salamander, which is also the largest tiger salamander reaching a length of about 13 inches for a very large individual. When you go down south and along the gulf coast, you get into this species, which is called the barred tiger salamander. There are also several other species found in the Midwest; the blotched tiger salamander, the gray tiger salamander. There's a species over in California called the California tiger salamander, which is also an endangered species. Also, tiger salamanders, the larva has been used widely around the United States as bait, as fishing bait for bass. When people are done with the larva, done fishing for the day, instead of taking the larva salamanders home they just dumped them into the ponds, the lakes, or the rivers. Now there are new populations of tiger salamanders throughout the United States and the species varies on what type of larva they were using. It can be found just about in some other far away bodies of water where there's no populations in the area."
