"In this clip we are going to talk about the mess that budgies and other parakeets make, even though their cages are fairly small and you would think that it would be a confined mess these animals make. They are mostly granivores and they'll eat a seed mix as well as pellets. Their food is so small and light that every time that they flap their wings in their cage, they tend to just throw everything out. So within about anything between a 2 foot and 8 foot radius of the cage, you are going to have little bits of feathers, you are going to have little bits of food, droppings, shredded paper that they've chewed on. Basically these guys can create a more dusty fluff that you possibly can imagine for something their size. And, it seems for every parakeet that you add to that cage, the mess is going to go up exponentially. So, 1 parakeet you may have to spend 5-6 minutes a day cleaning up. If you end up with 3 parakeets, you are going to spend 15, 25 minutes a day basically just trying to confine the mess. If you don't mind walking on little seed holes and birdie poop or whatever, you can ignore the problem, but it is there. And, it is such a fine mess that they make, that it is going to coat your electronics, it is going to coat your kitchen floor. I almost recommend having an air filter close by these cages, not only for the birds health, in absorbing toxins and allergens in the air, but also for your health as well. Because, these guys produce their own fine mess of feather dander as you can see this little guy dropping here, seed holes, little poops, and they like to shred paper, and other like toys into a fine little mess which will scatter as soon as they flap their wings. They can actually be pretty messy compare to a rat or hamster which you can keep in a cage and confined the mess by glass walls. This is a very open environment and the mess just goes everywhere. "
