" Hi this is Elise McMahon with expertvillage.com and this video series we are going to talking about flea and tick prevention. If you like to find more about my services you can visit my website canineheadstart.com. So in this short clip here we are going to be talking about tick prevention. In many of the same products that will that sell things it is many of the same companies that sell products for flea prevention will also sell another product that will do both fleas and ticks. So a example is Frontline, Frontline will sell has a product for just fleas and Frontline Plus kills fleas and ticks. Again you want to be very careful to check out the size that your dog is and the size that it is called for is right here. This if for 23-44 pounds and this one is 45-88 pounds it is very important that you don't put this on a 30 pound dog. Okay. So again you are going to be paying attention to whether or not it kills ticks as well as fleas or it is just a product that just kills fleas. So this product ask to be apply in the shoulder blades here and it wants you to empty the entire contents in the one spot. Some products will actually have you put them in different spots all in the dogs back but this one if you read the instructions it tell you to put it right here. So it comes in this close container and what you do is you just snap it off the top there. I'm just going to empty the contents on the skin so I have part of the hair and I empty the contents on the skin along the dogs back. One thing you want to be thinking about and be careful of is that different dogs react to different medications in different ways. This dog here is very sensitive to one product and he has a very bad reaction on one product. Once you find that out you can use a alternative product. But you might want to talk to your vet depending on what kind of what breed of dog you have whether if they have short skin, short fur, sensitive skin, to see whether or not those dogs are topically in more sensitive to one type of medicine over another and try to make the best decision about what to put on your dog. However, if your dog whines up having a bad reaction to the topical lotion that you put on here what you want to do is get some grease cutting shampoo or dish washing liquid put them in the bath tub and then wash them off remove it. You can also topically on the back of these boxes there is information with phone number to the company and give them a call tell them your dogs symptoms that are usually more then willing and able to help you out."
