"Hi, this is Ryan William with Expert Village. I'm going to teach you how to talk to your dog. First thing is what you shouldn't do when you're talking to your dog. First thing you shouldn't do when you're talking to your dog is use baby talk. If you talk to your dog like you do a baby, all you're going to do is create more excitement. We don't want excited dogs because they get really annoying. We want calm dogs. So if you come up to your dog like, "Oh my gosh, oh I love you so much," he's just going to get more excited. His tail's going to start going crazy, and you're going to have yourself a hyper-active dog. So actually when I pet my dogs, I do not talk to them rarely at all. Occasionally, I'll tell them I love them when I'm petting them. They really don't need the extra excitement in their lives. They need someone who's going to be their leader to be calm all the time so they can be calm. Another thing when you're talking to dogs is if they're doing something wrong, and your correcting them the deeper you can make your voice sound, the more confident and more assertive you can make your voice, the more they're going to listen to you. If he's biting somebody's pant leg, and you say, "no, that's a bad dog," then he's not going to listen to you. But if you say, "NO," and start walking towards him, letting him know that you're not going to put up with that type of behavior, he's going to immediately respond. Like when I changed my voice just now, he looked at me because he knew that was my serious voice. Just think of maybe your dad when you were growing up, and as soon as he used that one voice or gave you that one look, you knew you had to obey. Dogs do the same thing so show them you mean business."
