"Depending which hand you hold your treat in, the next step in the "stay" process is holding up your hand just like a stop sign. I am right handed, so I have my treat in the right, I hold my left. If you're left handed, you'll hold your right. I would recommend having all family members follow the same pattern of consistency so the dog picks up on the routine that much quicker. The more the family members, friends and neighbors do the same approaches, the clearer in understanding it will be for your dog. I also like to let customers know that dogs are more visual animals than verbal. So like I said in the last step, always be sure, whenever you issue any of the commands I've shown you today, incorporate the visual with the verbal command so there's no question what you want your dog to do. Stay. "
