How to Walk your Dog with a Loose Leash

"On behalf of Expert Village, I'm Carl Puentes from K-9 Solutions in Miami, Florida and today I am going to show you dog techniques from my new book, "Who is Training Whom." Before you start teaching your dog to heel, you want to teach him to walk with a loose leash and right here we have 6 feet of leash and most people walk their dogs like this. Here you have 6 feet, 7 and 8 that don't exist as part of the leash. So what you want to do is right before the dog takes the 6 feet, you go in the opposite direction. You have to your hand in the right place. Put your hand in here like always. This one goes over this one. You have a lot power here. Right before you take 6 feet of leash, you take a big step in the opposite direction. He'll learn that his limit is 6 feet all around you. If he goes that way, you go this way right before he pulls you. If he is already pulling, he's not affected. The two main reasons is because he is already pulling you; that's one. That is what you want to avoid and the other one is that he gains a lot of momentum and it is harder for you to later bring him back to you and hold him. It will put a lot of strain on his neck. You are going to say, don't put strain on your neck and he is going to anyway. So this is the best way to do it, right befoer. "
