"So I am just working right through the coat getting all the matted areas out. So we go over the matted area and the length of coat here We can actually see the mat. So again, I am going to hold the length here, hold it so that I am not pulling the dog. Here's the mat right here. This is just matted under coat coming out. I am going to hold the coat, take my slicker and just brush that right out and that came right out. You can have little mats, big mats, felted mats. If you keep on top of the coat, you are not going to have really felted problem areas but the brush I am doing right now is within a week of brushing it before. So I am just gently separating the coat, holding the coat down and working the brush gently through the coat to release and break up the mats. This is also a way of brushing so that you know that you actually got the hair brushed down to the skin and you are not just brushing over the mats. In other words brushing the outer coat but leaving the mat down in the under coat. So I am just targeting the matted areas and just gently pulling the brush through those matted areas. And you can see what I am getting out of here is not a whole lot of coat but it is under coat. This is what was matting up. This is the finer softer stuff and that is what is causing the mat."
