"Once you get your bow under the water with the bow initiation, our next step is stopping that momentum. That's controlling the side to side movement once we're vertical. To do this, first off, I'm going to bring my paddle out in a triangle so that I stay really stable. This way my boat and my body to my paddle create this nice triangle in the water and I'm really balanced. The next part of that is I need to pay attention to which way my bow is sliding underneath me. If my bow starts to slide over to this side, I'll take a back stroke on the right to pull my bow back to my paddle again. If my bow starts to slide to the left, same thing. I'll take a stroke over on this side to bring it back. The entire time I'm staying in that triangle, because if I move my paddle too close to my boat, I become very unstable and likely to fall over. Once you get into your bow stalls, right off the bat you can start that momentum with a nice backstroke. That kills any of that side-to-side motion."
