In this clip, we're going to talk about the proper service procedure in order to remove and replace a broken CV joint also known as a drive shaft on a front-wheel drive vehicle. In this clip, we're going to talk about the proper service procedure for torquing our constant velocity joint nut. Now what I'm going to do is a screwdriver method. I'm going to take and slip my screwdriver into the vented portion of the rotor and spin it until it makes it contact with the caliper bridge. What that's going to do is hold the wheel from free spinning. I'm going to then go ahead and take my half inch drive ratchet, run this nut down a little farther by hand and begin torquing it. Alright. If for some reason you can't use a screwdriver to wedge against the caliper bracket, you can find a friend or a buddy and have them sit in the vehicle and apply the brakes for you. That will hold the rotor in place and it will allow you to torque the wheel. What I'm going to do from here once its torqued is take and revolve the caliper through the rotor over until this tab is exposed. This notch right here is a safety feature. I'm going to take my screwdriver and pound a portion of the sleeve of this nut down inside that crevice just like so. What that does is takes and locks the nut from unspinning during your drive. That is the proper service procedure for torquing your lug nut or for torquing your constant velocity joint nut and engaging the safety tab.
