"Hi I'm David Belch with Thermo Guard and today on behalf of Expert Village I am here to show you how to install windows. What I want to show you now is how to measure a wood sash window. The wooden windows come with a wooden jamb frame header and sloping ceiling. You have a stool, stop and casing. In order to replace these windows you replace them from the outside but you measure from the inside. What you do first is you open up your window to get your height. You take your tape and put it down inside of the stool to the highest point of the ceiling, bring it all the way to the seam between the casing and the stop because the stop is actually nailed to your header. The measurement is 37 and 3/4 inches. You want to take off 1/4 of an inch to give you some play. You make the height 37 and 1/2. On the width, do the same thing. You see the seam where the molding it. There is a seam where the molding is over here. Measure from your seam to the molding and seam the molding. It is exactly 36 inches. You will make it 35 and 3/4 inches. Knock off 1/4 of an inch. What that does is allow you to square the windows, insulate and whatnot and that is basically it."
