Series Summary

In many parts of the world, motorcycles are among the least expensive, most widespread forms of motorized transport, and in some Western countries, motorcycles have even inspired close-knit subcultures of biking enthusiasts who ride a range of different motorcycles. There is a wide variety of motorcycles on the road today, including choppers, sport bikes, motocross bikes, mopeds, street bikes, cruisers and touring motorcycles. Within the different types of motorcycles, there lay the same basic components--chassis, frame, suspension, engine, brakes, tires and more--all of which may require maintenance at some time or another.

In this free video series, our expert will show you how to replace, repair and maintain your motorcycle brakes. You will get step-by-step instructions on disassembling your wheel and brake components, cleaning the brake caliper and master cylinder, repairing broken parts, and, finally, reassembling your motorcycle when you are finished. Our expert’s instruction will give you the knowledge to fix and maintain your own motorcycle brakes, as well as enhance your general understanding of motorcycle brakes.

"On behalf of Expert Village my name is Seth Williams. I work D-K service and I'm here to tell you about simple street bike brake repair and inspection. This is a '93 Suzuki Jet SXR750. They're mid line entry level sport bike, it's in here for some brake repair, mainly the mass cylinder. I'm only covering some tips of general maintenance and just looking and inspecting parts making sure that their in condition. First step is going to be removing the rear wheel, you know undoing the nut taking the swing arm excel out dropping the rear wheel. We're going to inspect the brake router and caliper after that to make sure the brake pads are good. The bike was in here last week with a brake problem using brake pressure in it's rear brake. I went ahead, lit it with a nematic bleeder that we use that uses an airline to bleed the brakes. After doing that about 3 times, I can get some minimal pressure on the bottom of the brake peddle when I push it all the way down and feathered it. I can get it to pressurize a little bit for about 3 to 4 seconds. After that we would lose pressure and it was, there was nothing and we know that, that is faulty mass cylinder that needs to be rebuilt. The seals inside it either had a hole or we're all ripped. So we'll be going through that as well as just some general maintenance tips on your braking system."
