"In this step we're going to demonstrate the proper jack stand placement, lowering our vehicle and actual removal of the vehicles tire. Now what I'm aiming for on this particular vehicle is what they call the engine cradle. It's the very large piece of structure you can see right here. I'm going to take and slip it underneath the front mount for the lower control arm right there. Now if you happen to have a smaller jack stand you may need to adjust it up, I'm going to demonstrate how they adjust and how you release them. The jack stand adjusts by simply lifting it up, as you can see it has a tooth mechanism which actually catches and to release it you just take and lift up on the release handle. Just like so, once again, you adjust it up like so and here's your release. I'm going to go ahead and place it right underneath the front mount for the lower control arm and I'm going to take and slowly release the hydraulic pressure on my floor jack so the vehicle settles gently down onto the jack stand. I'm going to go ahead and do that right now, like I said slowly release. You're just going to crack the valve open very gently. Right there, I'm going to take and slide my floor jack out and begin spinning off my lug nuts. You're going to want to throw all your lug nuts down in the magnetic tray so you don't kick them around or lose them while you're working on the vehicle and there's one. And for the last one and there we go. As you can see the wheel came right loose, now if yours happens to be corroded or ceased to the hub, what you're going to want to do is grab a hold of the top of it and strike the wheel with the palm of your hand like so. That'll break the corrosion free. You can then remove the wheel and slide it out of the way to work on the vehicle. Now that's the proper service procedure for placing your jack stand, setting the vehicle back down on your stand and removing your lug nuts and tire assembly."

on 8/2/2008 When replacing fron strust on a 2001 Taurus, we have to disconnect the ball joint from the lower control arm using a fork as you did in this video, while doing that the ball joint boot gets damaged/ripped. Is it ok to leave it like that or does it cause damage to the ball joint itself when doing so? In my case I just replaced the ball joints last week thinking it's the only problem in my 01 Taurus front suspension causing noises, but now that I want to replace the front struts I wanted to ask if it's ok to leave the ball joints boots like that or it could damage the ball joints.
You are a blessing Nathan, I've never seen such an excellent auto repair video and I learned so much from you. Thank you so much.
