Step 1
Teaching your dog to "Speak" on command is not that difficult. All you need to do is frustrate your dog a little. The tone of your voice and a little patience and your dog will be barking on command.
-
Step 2
The easiest way is if your dog barks when someone knocks on your door. Start by giving your dog the command "Speak," "Speak" and then have your helper knock on your door.
-
Step 3
Once your dog starts to bark keep saying "Speak," "Good, Speak" and give your dog some praise and the treat.
-
Step 4
Repeat the process until your dog starts to speak on command. Keep rewarding your dog and then do the exercise without your helper knocking on the door.
-
Step 5
Another way to do this is with a treat in your hand. Tempt your dog with the treat and say the command "Speak" in a high pitched tone of voice. Withhold the treat until your dog barks. As soon as your dog barks give your dog the treat.

on 7/14/2008 Hey I own a Jack Russell who has never barked in his whole lifetime even when someone opens the door. How do I get him to bark on command when he won't even bark if he's pissed.
