" Hello! This is Dan from Eastern Mountain Sports on behalf of expertvillage.com. In this clip I’m going to be discussing the importance of using chalk while rock climbing. There are several different kinds of chalk that you can use, there are chalk that’s in a ball like this, there is loose chalk and there’s also super chalk which is also a loose chalk but it also has little bit larger clumps rather than the really fine loose chalk. When you climb there is a chalk bag that a lot of climbers use and this right here is going to attach around your waist and when you use chalk it’s definitely a very good safety technique because it’s going to provide, it’s going to dry out your fingers and it’s also going to give you a better grip when climbing. However, when you climb you don’t need to take an entire handful of chalk, what you want to do is just use the chalk on the area that you’re going to be climbing and also you don’t want to keep the climbing chalk open at all times because anytime that you fall or move some of the chalk can get taken out of the chalk bag. So for the most part you’ll like to keep the chalk bag closed and when you use it just loosen it up, get again a minimal amount of chalk just the amount that you need to get a better hold and to dry out your fingers and then close up the chalk bag."
