Step 1
First make sure you want to do this. This is a extreme sport, and sooner or latter you will fall off. We all have. It is best to wear some protective gear like a helmet, gloves or knee pads. As you can see ,we wore none of that. And we fell off, Quite a few times. It hurt. but nobody needed medical attention and the videos are funny so it was worth it.

Step 2
Next you need to get a wheelchair. the internet is a good place to shop, becouse of the good prices and slection. drug stores near hospitals are also great places. We got our modal from a thrift store and it cost 25$. It is a piece of crap that always trys to turn to the right, even on level streets, also at speeds above 25 mph, the front wheels start wobbling horribly and often throw you off. It would be a good investment to get a better one, because those sort of things limit the speed you can reach in it.
-
Step 3
Next you should prep your wheelchair for race. Oil up the wheel bearings nice and good, it improves speed alot. Also if yours turns one way all the time like ours, oil just the wheel on the side it trys to turn, it should even it out (temporary).
-
Step 4
Now it is time to find a hill. Look for a street that is pretty straight and has light traffic. Smooth concrete also helps.
-
Step 5
Get protection on and it is time to race! on some hills it helps to have a helper push you to get you going. get used to the brakes on the wheelchair prior to racing though, you will need them. you can go down hill alone ,or if youve got 2 wheelchairs, invite a friend to race you.

Step 6
There are advanced tricks to wheelchair racing too. To do a wheelie, go backwards a little then quickly go forwards and shift your weight back, you can pop a wheelie easy and they look cool. For a drift get going at some speed then grab both back wheels and shift you weight forward a little. A power slide is the same as a drift except you keep your weight back and only grab the wheel on the side you want to turn. If you are real crazy you can set up ramps and jump things ,but you are on your own there, as we have yet to get THAT brave.
