Summary: Organize your iTunes library by learning how to sort libraries in iTunes in this iTunes video lesson taught by an iPod user and expert on music downloads.
"DREW NOAH: Before I move on to explain some things you can do in iTunes to organize your music and you do have like, playlists and folders, first, I want to talk about navigating over here in your main window and the power of the search bar. So, first off, very simple. You see you can sort by all these different categories that are available: Artists, Album, Track, Genre, Rating. And I'll show you how you can actually add and subtract from these categories later but your most important ones are going to be, you can sort it by track name or Artists is probably a good one 'cause then it's going to put all your artists together and all their albums right next to each other. So, Artists is probably what your main method of sorting should be and you see when the arrow is up, it's in alphabetical and reverse alphabetical when the arrow is down. But you can do that for anything and you can only sort it by--yeah, just like that. Okay. Now, I'm going to show you the search bar and instead of like even using--going through here--I mean, that kinda works but I don't actually like them. I turn that off. And I always just use the search to find artists or albums. So, as soon as I start typing, you see right away, I've only got three letters but it's giving me every song with those three letters in any part. You can see this song name has "DEC" and 'DEC' again, and then 'DEC' and the artist's name, The Decemberists. And I'm actually looking for this artist, The Decemberists. So, I can just keep on typing all the way out till I get Decemberists or like I showed you, I can sort and then there, they all are together. And if I keep typing, you'll notice that some of these other options will go away because the more letters I put in, the less available options there are in my library. And now, you can see it's only The Decemberists. So, I used the search pretty much all the time just to quickly go to things rather than scrolling up and down through my huge library as you can see, I'll just search for stuff real fast. And I almost always keep it in Artists alphabetical because that is just a really convenient way to look at your music. So, that's sorting you music and searching your music in iTunes."
