Hi, I’m Dr. Greg McDonald. We are talking about fleas and ticks and today we are going to specialize a little bit on the flea affect of the problem. This is a life cycle of the flea and what most people don’t realize when they see a flea on their animal the real problem is way down here with all the eggs that get into the environment. First of all we may see a flea on our dog and then within 2 weeks they can actually start to replicate and have all these eggs in the environment. Why these eggs are such a difficult problem is because they are very resistant to anything that we do to them. If they are in your rug, you almost have to steam clean your rug to get rid of them although there are a few products that you can put down on your rug that will actually take care of the flea eggs. Most of our products in this day and age are geared towards controlling the flea itself and the production of the eggs. If you can control the flea and the production of the eggs, then you don’t get all the little eggs down in your environment and then you don’t start having a problem with these eggs hatching out even sometimes 4 months later. Again, these eggs are very resistant to all of our environmental things but they are very sensitive to C02 production so an animal walks into the room and puts out C02 and if the right conditions are there for warmth and moisture all these eggs can hatch out and then they jump on your dog and then the whole cycle starts all over again. So today we are going to talk a little bit about how to control fleas in your dog and we will be back in a moment to do that.
