How to Teach a Dog to Shake

Introduction

One of the easiest tricks to teach your dog is to shake. Once your dog knows how to shake you can teach other tricks like wave and high five. You can teach this trick in about 5 minutes, so let me tell you how.

Tips & Warnings:

  • Make sure you keep rewarding your dog in the early stages of this trick.
  • It's easier if you have your dog in the sit position in front of you.
  • Once your dog understands "shake" you can start to teach "high five" and "wave."
Step1
Have your dog sit in front of you.
Step2
While your dog is sitting in front of you give your dog the command "Shake."
Step3
If your dog does not raise her paw, tap the back of your dog's paw with your right hand.
Step4
As soon as your dog raises her paw tell her "Good dog" and give her the treat.
Step5
Keep repeating until your dog starts to lift her paw when you say "Shake."
