Tips & Warnings:

  • Keep training sessions short and fun.
  • Any dog that eliminates during testing must be marked failed. The only exception to this rule is that elimination is allowable in test Item 10, but only when test Item 10 is held outdoors.
  • Any dog that growls, snaps, bites, attacks or attempts to attack a person or another dog is not a good citizen and must be dismissed from the test.
Step1
Part Four of the Canine Good Citizen test requires your dog to walk politely on a leash.
Step2
You must demonstrate that your dog can walk without pulling you. You have to show that you can do a right turn, left turn and about turn with your dog.
Step3
Practice by teaching your dog to walk on a loose leash. If your dog pulls, check Resources below for links to my video on leash training.
Step4
Your dog is not allowed to use a prong collar, gentle leader or halti collar. You can use a buckle collar or a slip collar.
