Step1
Open Adobe Photoshop CS or CS3
Step2
Click on 'File' and choose 'New' from the drop down menu.
Name your canvas by typing a title into the 'name' field.
Step3
Set the size of your canvas by pixel or by width/height. Any size will do. I chose 1800x1200 pixels to get a nice crisp quality. When you are finished click 'okay'.
Step4
Click on the small color boxes on the bottom left hand panel to set the foreground and background colors. For the foreground I chose a hazy gray hue #333131. For the background I chose solid white #ffffff. Once you have chosen the colors click 'okay'.
Step5
Create a new layer using the 'Create New layer' icon on the transport or use the keyboard shortcut- Mac: Shift+Apple+N PC: Shift+Alt+N then click okay.
Step6
Using your paintbrush color the entire background with the color of your choice by toggling between to fground and bground color boxes.
Step7
Click on the 'T' icon to create a new Text Box. Draw in your text box to the desired size. Select a font type and size from the drop down menu and choose a color by toggling between the fground and bground color boxes or pick a new color of your choice. Now type in your text. You can change the text properties by highlighting what you've typed and selecting another font, size, or color. Now center your text (using the 'move tool').
Step8
In your layers panel right click on the text layer and then click 'duplicate layer' then click okay.
Step9
Click on 'Edit' > 'Transform' > Flip Vertical. Then click on the text and use your arrow keys to position the upside down text directly underneath the original text. (leaving a tiny gap between the two words).
Step10
Use the 'Rectangular Marquee Tool' to draw a box around the upside down text. Then create a new layer.
Step11
Click on the 'Gradient Tool' and choose the 'Linear Gradient' icon from the task bar. Click the gradient image and choose 'foreground to transparent' (make sure your fground color box is the same color as your canvas and your bground color box is the same color as your text). Click Okay
Step12
Draw a line that goes up from the halfway point of the lower text to the halfway point of the upper text (hold shift to get a perfectly straight line) This may take a little practice to get just the right amount of reflection.
Step13
To get that shiny floor effect. Create a New Layer and use the 'Elliptical Marquee Tool' to draw an thin ellipse in the tiny space that you left between the two words. Use the paintbrush tool to color it black.
Step14
Go to 'Filter'> 'Blur' > 'Gaussian Blur. Then set the opacity slider in the layers window to 13%.
Step15
And there you have it! A perfect Web 2.0 style text reflection with shiny floor effect.
Cheers!
