I'm Therese Hubbs and I'm at the Baraat Studio by Roop Sari. And today, we're going to show you how to tie a classic sari. We're going to start off with, the petticoat is underneath. We want to make sure that the petticoat is tied very tight. It's going to be our anchor for tucking in the fabric. I have my assistant helping. We've already started by going once around to the left, through to the back, to the right. The petticoat should be tied very tight because it's going to be the anchor for the sari as we come around. The "palloo" has been folded back and forth about five inches. It's wrapped around the body, comes up through and under the arm. And then, it's measured, so that it hits, the tail of it hits right below the knee. Once that's determined, then you're able to adjust the fabric around, create your pleats in the front with the additional fabric. Creating the pleats and the pleats are folded over to the left. Tucked in to secure and should be placed directly over the leg. And that will give you the freedom to be able to walk. And all of this is secured with safety pins. Then you can adjust by folding over your pleats of your sari to show off the embroidery work. It can be hung down low, hung on the arm or pleated up on the shoulder. This is a classic sari tying.
