I am Dr. Jeffrey Levy, house call vet, NYC and this is why do cats rub their mouth on people. My clients often ask me why does my cat rub its face against me. We're going to talk about some reasons why. Cats have many scent glands in their body. They are around the face, they are around the ears, they are on the paws and then other various places. When a cat rubs against an object or rubs against a person for that matter, they are in part depositing a scent on them. They are claiming you in part as territory but they are also claiming you and marking you as a friend. Cats also derive some physical pleasure. This is called aloe rubbing. When they rub the body secretes endorphins or feel good chemicals int their own systems. So enjoy when your cat is rubbing its face against you. It's all part of the bonding experience.
