I'm Aaron Tucker and this is how to press a tie. If you have the option on your iron for steam I suggest steaming your tie. This way you don't place any direct heat on it. It's fine to place direct heat on your tie every now and then but I don't suggest something that you know this you would do everyday. Also if you have a pressing cloth which most of us do not, you can use a clean t-shirt or a clean pillow case just so you are not applying direct heat to your tie. But if you don't have any of these options you want to take the tie, lay the facade of the tie down flat on your ironing board. This way the back side of the tie will be up facing you. Set the iron to a lower setting if it's a silk tie. If it's wool or cotton it can handle a bit of a higher setting. But just decide what material you are using. And what the best setting is on your iron and gently go across the tie. You don't have to place too much heat on the tie because it's going to be a lighter material. And it's not going to be that much wrinkles in your tie anyway. So gently go back and forth on the tie until you get all of the wrinkles out.
