Hi, I'm Denise Druce, a registered yoga teacher in Salt Lake City, Utah. Let's take a look at some beginning yoga exercise techniques. I'd like to show you the sun salutation with some modifications for a beginner. So this is 12 movements and each movement gets its own breath. You'll start in mountain pose, and you'll finish in mountain pose. This is a series of movements that move forward and back to strengthen and stretch the front and the back of your body. So start at the top of your yoga mat with your feet hip distance apart in mountain pose. Then take a deep breath in extending arms over head. Exhale, bend your knees, and moving from the hips come down into forward fold. And then with your fingertips on the mat take a deep breath in as you step your right leg back into a lunge. And you can drop your knee to the mat if you like. And then exhale back to child's pose. You can curl your toes under if you want, to make it a little more challenging, and come to downward facing dog. And then on the next inhale step that right foot forward again so you're lunging on the other side. Exhale to forward fold, inhale the arms overhead, and exhale, hands heart center, back to mountain pose. So those 12 breaths make up the sun salutation.
