Hi, I'm Teca Thompson, farm to table chef. Today, we're talking about how to identify a ripe pomegranate. So here I have some pomegranate seeds and this is exactly what we're looking for, very beautiful, ruby red color and juicy and sweet. So when you are identifying them in the store, unlike other fruit, they are not highly sweet smelling when they are ripe. So what you are looking for is a nice firm, plump round pomegranate that has this beautiful red ruby color on the outside and that's how you identify a ripe pomegranate. Let's see how we did. So I'm just going to take my paring knife, I'm going to cut the top of the pomegranate off. I'm going to take out the middle here and then I'm going to score it all the way around and this will make it easier for me to break it open. And that's what we're looking for, beautiful red little balls of like ruby red seeds and fruit. I'm Teca Thompson, that's how to identify if your pomegranate is ripe. Thank you for watching.
