Hi, I’m Emily Jones, fitness expert and competitor here at Camp Hero Fitness in Southlake, Texas. I’m going to be teaching and demonstrating to you what dumbbell step ups work. One of the benefits of incorporating dumbbell step ups into your leg workouts is actually it works out your glutes, and your medial and lateral aspects of your quads. The most important thing when doing this exercise is that you choose a platform that once you put your foot on your platform, that you maintain a 90-degree angle so you don’t put too much strain on your knees. You’re also going to get a moderate amount of weight, and I’m going to start with using my right leg. Make sure you keep your back straight, chest up, you’re going to step up, lock out that knee all the way, and then you’re going to come back down, keeping your chest over your knee and up, back straight. You’ll do about 12 to 15 reps on your right leg, and then you’ll alternate to your left. Make sure that it’s a fluid motion, that you don’t go too fast so you can continue to feel it in your legs and your glutes. And again, I’m Emily Jones, fitness expert and competitor, and I just demonstrated and taught to you what dumbbell step ups work.
