I'm Renee Byrd with Camp Gladiator, here today to talk about functional exercises for your calves. Functional exercises are great for speed, agility and even injury prevention. So, today, we're going to cover about three exercises that people can do everyday of their life just specifically for their calves. The first thing that we're going to talk about is the vertical jump. A lot of athletes do these during practice, great for you guys to do at home. What you're going to do is put your feet under your hips and the whole key point in this case is that you're pushing off your toes, not off your heels. So, with your hands up as high as you can get, you're literally going to explode using your toes, not using your heels. The second exercise I'm going to show you guys are called toe hops. Great for field training, you can pick a line to hop over and back, you can even punish yourself with a little burpee if you land on the paint. But, for today, what we're going to do is we're going to take our feet, put them together and you're going to have an imaginary line beside you that you're going to hop over and over. The last exercise that I'm going to show you for your calves today is a typical jump rope. If you're not comfortable using an actual jump rope, it's okay. Just use an imaginary one. Again, I'm Renee Byrd with Camp Gladiator, and we just covered some functional exercises for your calves.
