Hi, this is Stephany with Elevated Fitness, and we're going to talk about exercises that you can do for your abdominals with a barbell. Now one of the workouts that we're going to do with a barbell is going to be a crunch. Now I have a 15 pound barbell but you according to your fitness level can go as low as five to eight pounds. We're going to start out with a crunch and then we'll do progressive movements and what you want to do is try to keep your hands straight coming up, lifting your shoulders off of the ground, doing a crunch and bringing your hands back over your head. Now you want to make sure that when you're doing this movement, your neck isn't strained, you're not leaning forward, you're looking up at the ceiling and your chin is staying out of your chest. So, hands come back, come up and crunch, come back down. Now, when you feel comfortable with this movement and you want to progress to another level of doing abdominal workouts, you can go into a crunch lifting it up over your head. So again you want to make sure that you keep your neck completely relaxed. You're not straining it. You're taking your lower back off of the floor, keeping your hands above your head and coming back down. Now, when you want to progress even more from the movement, you can go ahead and start to engage your legs. So doing a toe touch with the barbell, you bring your feet and hands off the ground, shoulders off, keeping your chin out of your chest, looking at the ceiling and then coming back down into the position. And this will be a really advanced movement. So if you're doing this workout and you feel it in your lower back, your abs are probably not strong enough to withstand this exercise and you want to go back to one of the other two.
