Hi, I'm Suzanne Reilley, online health and fitness coach, and I'm here at Firm Body Evolution Holistic Health and Fitness in West Hollywood. I'm going to talk to you today about the health benefits of coconut water during workouts. So, coconut water is the water that comes from the inside of young coconuts before they mature, and it's a bit of a natural sports drink because it contains sodium, potassium, a little bit of carbohydrates and other electrolytes that help you to absorb water better. If you're working out for less than 60 minutes, water is fine. If you're working out for more than 60 minutes, or in a really hot environment where you're sweating a lot and you're really sweating a lot of salt, it's a good idea to drink some coconut water for those electrolyte benefits. A good thing about it is that it doesn't contain high fructose corn syrup, so while it does contain natural sugar, you won't have the added corn syrup. You do want to look for something that doesn't have added sugar, because some of them do. So, just be on the lookout for that. The other good thing about it is that it often feels better in people's stomachs. So, it's just a bit easier to digest while you're working out and sweating and perspiring. So, in a nutshell, one to two cups of coconut water with extended workouts or hot workouts, no need to overdo it the rest of the time; water is fine.
