Hi, my name is Stephanie Haynes at Diva Hair Designs in Duncanville, Texas, and I'm going to demonstrate to you how to curl long natural hair. You want to take the hair and part it, using a very light spritz and spray the base of the hair, take the curling iron, smooth it out and run it to the very ends of the hair as so, roll it down. It is important to go to the base of the hair and as I said you want to curl it off base, that is what gives you the volume. If you curl it under base, then you won't have volume, it will be flat but if you curl it off base then the hair is going up and you will have the volume. This is off base, holding the hair all the way up, smoothing it at the root, taking the curling iron all the way to the ends of the hair, as you see it's all the way to the ends of the hair so that there won't be any fishhooks. And fishhooks are where the hair was not all the way at the end of the curling iron and you turn the curling iron and it bent the wrong way. You want everything to be smooth and that's your curl. Once you've completed the curling, a little light spray of oil sheen and a wide tooth comb. It's very important to use a wide tooth comb because then you can comb the hair out and the layers can form the way the hair was cut. Now you see the volume here from curling the hair off base. Now at the front of the hair, we're going to give her a side French bang. You can take your flatiron, curl it to the very end. We're just going to give just a little swerve and as you see there, the layer is being formed. You see the volume that was produced by curling the hair off base. My name is Stephanie Haynes at Diva Hair Designs in Duncanville, Texas, and I just demonstrated to you how to curl a layered look on African-American hair.
