Hello, I'm Jeffrey Ingalls, president of Stratford Financial Group and Stratford Employer services in Wayne, New Jersey. And right now we're going to talk about: How To Renew COBRA Health Insurance after 18 Months. After electing COBRA health insurance and depending upon the qualifying event that you've experienced, most health insurance COBRA participants will be allowed to continue their coverage for a period of 18 months. At the end of that time frame you cannot renew your coverage, per say, however you will have two options to replace your coverage under COBRA and continue your health insurance. The first option is to investigate whether or not your current carrier offers a conversion policy. This will allow you to transfer your COBRA coverage to individual coverage. The benefits may be different and the premiums will likely be different but this will allow you to seamlessly transfer into individual coverage with the same carrier. The second option would be to investigate the individual market place. You can likely purchase an individual policy from your current carrier or from a different carrier that offers a product and a premium that you find to be reasonable and affordable. It's also important to note that you must transfer to a conversion policy or an individual policy without any break in coverage from your last date of coverage under COBRA.
