Hello, my name is Adam Bates, and I'm with Insurance Services of America. Today, I'm going to talk about health insurance and international destinations. If you're planning to make a trip overseas, or plan to move abroad, then you want to check out your health insurance policy to make sure it meets all of your insurance needs. Typically, domestic health insurance, that includes HMOs and PPOs, don't offer all the benefits that you need while you're traveling or living abroad. Does your domestic insurance cover you for local medical expenses in a foreign country? Does it offer translation services in case you need medical transcripts? Does your local insurance also convert currency or provide emergency medical evacuation and transportation? If they don't, then you want to find a international health insurance plan that does cover you in your specific destination. Local health insurance is meant for people within the U.S.. It's not really designed for people traveling abroad. If you've ever been overseas, you know that 800 numbers don't work. And, if you've ever call your domestic health insurance company from abroad, do you think they would be able to provide the necessary services to help you find a doctor, get a claim paid, or provide the necessary medical transportation? If you don't think so, then look into an international health insurance policy. My name is Adam Bates, and I'm with Insurance Services of America.
