Hi, I'm David Sumpter, commercial insurance specialist with Wateridge Insurance in San Diego. Let's talk about purchasing business insurance online. There's a couple of things I want you to think about here. First of all, business insurance is not personal insurance. You may like to go onto some of the big websites for the big carriers you see on the commercials for your personal auto but things are a little bit different with business insurance online. Typically, you're only going to be talking to an agency when you fill out a form online and that's okay but just realize that you're not going to an actual insurance carrier, you're going to a broker that's going to shop for you. When you fill out that information, typically an insurance broker like myself might receive that information and go out to market for you. Keep in mind, that typically most business insurance agents cannot access another carrier if another agent has already gotten there. So I would recommend give that agent a little bit of time to get out to market for you. Number two, the most important thing to remember is they are not the insurance carrier. Make sure they are giving you coverages provided by a financially stable and reputable insurance company. Always ask to see who the insurance carrier is that you're doing business with. Finally, make sure that if you're shopping for one line of coverage, maybe reach out to that agent after you get the quote and see if they recommend any other additional coverages. If you bought liability insurance, maybe look at worker's compensation insurance or commercial auto. Don't let that broker off the hook by just giving you that one line of coverage. Make sure that they're doing their job as an agent, looking at your entire insurance program. Buying online can be convenient and potentially save you money but don't forget that relationship with the broker is the most important thing. I'm David Sumpter, commercial insurance specialist with Wateridge Insurance, and now you know how to buy insurance online.
