Hi, I'm Kristen Rzasa, owner of InterPlay Health and host on FTNS World's 1st Fitness Radio. Today, I'm here at the Jazzercize Fitness Center in Stamford, Connecticut to talk about exercises that don't require weights. You don't need fancy equipment or machines to stay in shape. There are many many exercises that you can do using your own body weight. Today I'll share with you just a few of my favorites to target legs, arms and abdominals. First, we'll talk about working the legs. Squats are a very effective exercise and you can do them anywhere. Stand with your feet shoulder width apart, bend your knees and slowly lower your body down as if you were about to sit in a low chair. You should feel this exercise in your legs and upper thighs but you'll also be working your abdominal muscles too. Second, for the upper body we're going to try a push-up that doesn't even require you getting onto the floor. You can do a push-up using a wall. Put your hands in a triangle shape position on the wall, step a few feet away from the wall, slowly lower your chest towards the wall and then extending the arms to a straight position push yourself away from the wall. Try holding this even 30 seconds at a time. This will strengthen your upper body, your triceps and your pec muscles. Eventually you'll be able to do a full push-up on the floor. Our last exercise will focus on the abdominal muscles. Lie on a mat on the floor with your legs extended in front of you. Slowly lift your legs together off the ground and hold that position for 30 seconds if you can or you could start out with 10 seconds and work up. Then raise a little further and hold for another 30 seconds, slowly lower your legs back down to the starting position and continue repeating until your abdominal muscles are fatigued. These are a few simple exercises that you can do without weights. You can exercise anytime, anywhere. I'm Kirsten Rzasa here at The Jazzercise Fitness Center in Stamford, Connecticut.
