Hello, my name is Steffen Root, co-owner of Berkshire Bike and Board here in Great Barrington, Massachusetts. Today we're going to be talking about why to use a smaller tire on the back on a BMX bike. So here we have a BMX bike and the back size tire is a 20.195 versus the front is a 20.2125. So we have a smaller tire on the back and the reason we use a smaller tire on the back is when we're racing it's all about accelerating and getting up to speed as fast as possible. So a smaller lighter weight tire is what we want to use, therefore, it's lighter weight and will spin up faster. Because traction really isn't paramount in the back we're not dealing with mud or adverse conditions when we're racing a BMX bike, having a little bit smaller tire is not as big of a deal. On the other hand where we do want a little bit more traction because we are on a dirt track, a front tire with a little bit more volume is going to help us maintain that front traction for stability and control for cornering and for exiting corners. That is why we want to use a smaller tire on the back on a BMX back. My name is Steffen Root, co-owner of Berkshire Bike and Board in Great Barrington, Massachusetts.
