Hello, my name is Steffen Root, co-owner of Berkshire Bike and Board in Great Barrington, Massachusetts and today we're going to talk about what are the best rims for a BMX. When talking about what are the best rims for BMX, depends on what you're using them for. If you're a heavy guy and you're doing lots of jumping and putting your bike through lots of abuse, you're going to want a higher spoke count. BMX wheels come in two spoke counts. They come in 36 spokes or 48. A 48 spoke wheel will be much stronger but there is also a weight penalty so it's one of those things that you want to decide. Is strength and durability more important than lightweight? So racers generally tend to go with a 36 hole, i.e., 36 spoke wheel, therefore, making it lighter, faster to accelerate whereas freestyle riders and people that are putting their bike through lots of abuse, heavier guys doing lots of jumping will use a 48 spoked wheel and that is basically how you go about trying to figure out what is the best BMX wheel for you and once you've decided what are your priorities, you will know which direction to go in. My name is Steffen Root, co-owner of Berkshire Bike and Board in Great Barrington, Massachusetts.
