Using the yellow yarn, cast on 50 stitches. Divide evenly between your double-pointed needles and join to work in the round. Work in stockinette stitch for three inches.

Shape the Head

Knit eight, knit two together. Repeat from * to end of round. You now have 45 stitches. Knit seven, knit two together. Repeat from * to end of round. You now have 40 stitches. Knit six, knit two together. Repeat from * to end of round. You now have 35 stitches. Knit five, knit two together. Repeat from * to end of round. You now have 30 stitches. *Knit four, knit two together. Repeat from * to end of round. You now have 25 stitches. Work in stockinette stitch for one inch.

Finish the Head

Knit three, knit two together. Repeat from * to end of round. You now have 20 stitches. Knit two, knit two together. Repeat from * to end of round. You now have 15 stitches. *Knit one, knit two together. Repeat from * to end of round. You now have ten stitches. Cut yarn, leaving a long tail, and using your tapestry needle, draw through the remaining stitches, pulling tight to close.

Wings

Using orange yarn and two double-pointed needles, cast on 14 stitches. Knit one inch in garter stitch. *Knit one, knit two together, knit to last three stitches, knit two together, knit one. Knit one row. Repeat from * until four stitches remain. Knit two together twice. Two stitches remain. Turn and knit two together once more and tie a knot to close. Make a second wing and sew them both to the body as pictured.

Beak

Using orange yarn and two double-pointed needles, cast on five stitches. Knit four rows in garter stitch. Knit two together, knit one, knit two together. You now have three stitches. Knit one row. Knit three together. Cut yarn and tie a knot to close. Sew the beak onto the head as pictured.

Using orange yarn and two double-pointed needles, cast on ten stitches. Knit four rows in garter stitch. Bind off all stitches. Sew the comb to the top of the head as pictured.

Using black yarn and your tapestry needle, embroider two eyes as pictured.

Stuff the Chicken

Stuff your chicken firmly with the polyester stuffing. Sew the bottom of the chicken closed with the tapestry needle.
