Most of the machines that are used to clean carpets are relatively large, but a handful of options exist for homemakers looking for more compact machines. Among these are a hand-held vacuum cleaner, a miniature heat cleaner, and a compact, heavy-duty professional carpet-cleaning machine. Small carpet-cleaning machines can be purchased at department stores, hardware stores, online, and in specialty shops.
The Dustbuster is a compact vacuum cleaner produced by Black & Decker. As of October 2010, the small carpet-cleaning machine is available in four models: The Cylonic, the Wet/Dry, the 18V hand vacuum, and the Cyclonic equipped with a cord. The basic cordless Dustbuster is designed for general household use and picks up dry materials like cereal and dust. The Wet/Dry model is a Dustbuster model that is designed to clean up liquid and solid messes. The 18V pivoting hand vac is a Dustbuster with an extended, pivoting nozzle designed to clean hard-to-reach spaces. The corded Cyclonic handvac is a larger, more powerful version of the standard Cyclonic Dustbuster and is specially designed to remove pet hair and stains from carpet and upholstery.
The SpotBot is a small carpet-cleaning machine produced by Bissell. It uses the company's patented ProHeat technology to clean carpets, upholstery, and stairs. The ProHeat technology combines water heated by the SpotBot with a cleaning solution. The combined liquids are used to scrub and clean carpet stains, and are then dried by the SpotBot's heater. The SpotBot is a "walk away" cleaner. This means that homemakers set the carpet cleaner in the spot that needs cleaning and walk away while the machine does its work.
The Xtrac is a compact, professional-grade carpet-cleaning machine produced by Kent Euroclean that can be used by homemakers. A relatively small carpet cleaner, the Xtrac cleans carpet in 12-inch swaths with a single spray jet. The spray jet is placed below a 5-gallon cleaning solution container. The jet releases the cleaner onto the carpet, and a wet vac attached to the unit extracts deep dirt, mold, and stains. The Xtrac is about as tall as a standard vacuum cleaner, and has a compact body, making it a small professional carpet-cleaning machine.
