The F4100 is smaller than most office copiers and doubles as a printer.

The HP Deskjet F4100 is more than a simple printer. It is also a scanner and copier with the ability to print photos using several types of photo paper. Unlike some combination printers the F4100 does not include a fax machine. However, the F4100 possess more flexibility than a standard combination printer due to the fact that its copier and scanner functions work independently of the computer to which it is connected.

    1. Printing Speeds

      • The HP F4100 has variable printing speeds based on what is being printed and the printing mode selected by the user. Black and white documents print most quickly at 20 pages per minute in draft mode and 7ppm in normal mode. Full color documents print significantly slower at 14ppm in draft mode and only 2.9 ppm in normal mode. Draft mode is significantly faster and uses less ink due to the fact that draft mode uses a lower printing resolution than normal mode which is more suitable for finished documents.

      Printer and Scanner Resolution

      • The maximum printing resolutions of the F4100 are based on the DPI-dots per inch-of the printer. Both color and black and white modes have their own DPI ratings that determine the crispness and quality of images printed on the F4100. Black and white documents have a maximum resolution of 1200 DPI when printed from a computer while color documents are printed at up to 4800 x 1200 DPI when printed from a computer with a 1200 DPI source.

      Paper and Cartridges

      • The cartridges used in the F4100 include a black and white cartridge, a tri-color cartridge and a photo cartridge. The F4100 can use these cartridges to print on letter, legal, executive, cards and A2 sized media. It is capable of using inkjet, photo and plain paper as well as envelopes, cards, labels, iron-on transfers, transparencies and HP premium media. It has a single paper tray and holds up to 100 sheets of paper or 10 envelopes at a time but does not include an envelope feeding mechanism. This printer is not capable of duplex printing (using both sides of a sheet).

      Copier Specs

      • The F4100 uses a flatbed scanner with hardware capable of scanning at 1200x2400 DPI. It has an enhanced scan resolution of 19200 DPI, 256 levels of grayscale and a bit depth of 48-bits. The F4100 scanner can scan objects of up to 8.5x11.7 inches. When used only for copying and not scanning the F4100 has a resolution of 600 DPI for black and white documents and 1200x2400 DPI for color documents. It can make up to 20 black and white copies per minute or 14 color copies in a minute. It provides image scaling from 25 to 200 percent and is capable of producing nine copies at a time.
