Ways to Unscramble Letters to Make Words

One of the games that we were taught as young children is word scramble. Teachers gave us an assortment of letters and had us unscramble the letters to make words. Sometimes a word just jumped out at you, while other times it seemed a little more difficult. Here are a few tips to help you unscramble words when you just can't figure them out.

Find Letter Combinations

  • Look for common letter combinations, such as "th", "ly" and "sh." When you see two letters that look like they may go together, put them side by side and try to arrange the rest of the letters around them to form a word.

Identify the Vowels

  • Count the number of vowels and consonants. If there are more vowels, then your word is likely to begin with one of them. Try different arrangements of letters with each vowel at the front of the word until you find a word that makes sense.

Second Position Vowels

  • Place each vowel in the second position of the word. Place each consonant, one at a time, before the vowel to see if you get a valid letter combination. If you do, then continue adjusting the letters until you see a word.
